How it helps people in Abak

For families and communities

The model primary school gives pupils equipped classrooms, a library, a computer centre and a clinic, on a site that was once abandoned and unsafe. The Model Primary Health Centre at Afaha Obong is designed to bring care closer to communities that had little access and to reduce pressure on larger hospitals. There are fourteen compassionate homes for vulnerable households, with 11 completed. The homes took families out of extreme need.

For work and income

The oil processing mills are designed to raise output and income for rural women and to cut the cost of processing palm produce. The roads are expected to help farmers move produce to markets such as Urua Nduke and Obo Annang Market. People received 64 farmers grants, 169 traders grants, 70 equipment support awards and 2 MSME grants of 5 million Naira each.

For getting around and reaching services

Abak has five road projects, with a total of over 50km. The Pepsi Junction to Ukpom Abak road gives a second link between Uyo and Abak and connects over 30 communities. The Abak 10 to Manta road serves over 30 communities and links to the Uyo to Ikot Ekpene Road. The 16km road with two bridges is expected to reconnect communities across three Local Government Areas. The roads also ease access to hospitals, schools and markets.
