The ARISE grants and equipment support in Abak are part of the Akwa Ibom State Government's empowerment programme under Governor Umo Eno. Abak people have received four kinds of support: farmers grants, traders grants, equipment support and MSME grants.
The programme is funded by the state government. In Abak it started at the Federal Constituency Town Hall and Empowerment Series held at Abak Township Stadium in March 2025, which was the first stop of the statewide series. At that event, 620 people from Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika received cash support ranging from N150,000 to N5 million.
Across the three local government areas, six people received N5 million each, and 178 farmers received N500,000 each under the ARISE Farmers Grant. Another 442 traders and small business owners received between N150,000 and N700,000, based on their business needs. A further 198 artisans, such as vulcanizers, tailors, hairdressers and welders, were listed for equipment support.
The grants are meant to help farmers grow more food, help traders and small firms expand, and give artisans the tools to work. Together with other ARISE programmes, such as food support, student bursaries, skills training and health insurance, they are expected to reduce poverty in line with the ARISE Agenda.
The support has widened inclusion and helps community development. The programmes reach older people, students and vulnerable residents as well as people in business.
The grants are meant to reduce poverty and support long term economic growth.
