About Ibiono Ibom

The area includes Ikpanya Clan, and wards such as Central I, Western II, Northern I and Southern I. The Paramount Ruler is Okuku Ime Udousoro Inyang. Ibiono Ibom is in Uyo Senatorial District and shares the Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency with Itu.

Trading is the main economic activity. There are three major markets, at Ikot Ambang, Ikpa and Use Ikot Oku. The area went for a long time without enough roads and other basic infrastructure.

Roads link Ibiono Ibom to Uyo, Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas. Ikot Ada Idem, on the Uyo side, is about eight kilometres from Uyo and holds the site of the former Technical School, Ibiono Ibom, on 12.8 hectares of land. The singer of the 2011 song Akwa Ibom Ayaya, the state's unofficial anthem, came from Obot Okoh Mbiaobong in Ibiono Ibom.

How it helps people in Ibiono Ibom

For families and communities

The Renewed Hope Mother and Child Specialist Hospital at Oko Ita provides 100 beds for maternal, newborn and child care in the LGA. Ten ARISE Compassionate Homes are complete and two more are under way, so more families have housing. The ARISE Model Primary School at Ikot Ekop and the Model Health Centre at Use Ndon are designed to bring schooling and basic health care closer to their communities.

For work and income

The Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre trains people in nine faculties and has graduated hundreds of trainees. Grants and equipment reached 272 farmers, traders and small business owners. Road works are designed to link Ibiono Ibom to Uyo, Ikono and neighbouring LGAs, which is expected to ease the movement of goods to market. The RAAMP roads are meant to serve agricultural marketing.

For getting around and reaching services

Several roads are under construction in Ibiono Ibom, including the 10.9km Nsan Use road with two bridges, Ring Road 3 and the Ikpanya road. These are designed to connect communities to Uyo and to neighbouring LGAs.
