About the project

The Ikot Ada Idem to Ediene Ikot Obio Imo to Ikot Oku Ikono Road is a 9km road in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area. It is also known as Cardinal Ekandem Road. It runs from Ikot Oku Ikono through Ediene Ikot Obio Imo to Ikot Ada Idem, the home of the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre.

The road was started under the previous administration. Governor Udom Emmanuel flagged off construction in January 2023, before Governor Umo Eno took office on 29 May 2023. The Akwa Ibom State Government has continued the work.

Work is ongoing. The contractor and the completion date have not been published. The road links Ibiono Ibom with Uyo and Ikono, and is expected to make travel easier for farmers, traders and students along the route.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The road is meant to give the communities along it a direct way into Uyo. That can make daily trips to work, school and hospital easier for people in this part of Ibiono Ibom.

For work and income

A road to the state capital gives farmers and traders access to the larger Uyo market. Continuing an inherited project also means the work already done on the route is not wasted.

Background

Inherited project, continued under the Umo Eno administration.
