About the project

The Obotme to Ukpakon to Nturi to Okpoto to Ikpanya Road is a rural road in the Ikpanya area of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area. It runs from Obotme through Ukpakon, Nturi and Okpoto to Ikpanya, one of the main towns of Ibiono Ibom. It also serves communities in neighbouring Ini, including Iwere clan. The state budget lists it as a 13.7 kilometre road with two bridges, one of 30 metres and one of 20 metres.

The road was first flagged off in October 2018 under Governor Udom Emmanuel, after an earlier road on the route had collapsed. The work did not get far. Governor Umo Eno's administration has taken the project forward. The contract was awarded in 2025 and the contractor, Hensek Integrated Services, was mobilised to site. On 18 July 2025 the contractor held a site visit and community engagement with leaders of Iwere and Ikpanya clans.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters, Hon. Emmanuel Bassey, welcomed the quick mobilisation. The two clans thanked the Governor and said the road had been a long-standing need, especially in the rainy season, when the existing track becomes hard to use.

Work is ongoing. The road is expected to make travel easier for farmers, traders and families between Ibiono Ibom and Ini and to open the area to the main road network. It has not been commissioned.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The road and its bridges are meant to open up the Ikpanya area, so that people there can travel to the rest of the LGA for health care, schooling and public services.

For work and income

Once open, the road can let farmers in the Ikpanya area send produce out to market and bring supplies in. The link to neighbouring LGAs is expected to widen the range of markets that traders can reach.
