About the project

The Nsan Use to Nkwot Edem Edet Road is a 10.9km road with two bridges. It runs from Nsan Use through Ikot Amama, Ibiaku Ikot Esifa and Iton Mmong to Nkwot Edem Edet. It crosses communities in both Ibiono Ibom and Ikono Local Government Areas. The project is also known as the Use Ikot Amama Road.

The road is being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government. The State Executive Council approved the contract in November 2024, and Governor Umo Eno flagged off construction in March 2025. Setraco Limited is the contractor, and the work was given 24 months for completion. Work is ongoing.

The road crosses hilly ground cut by deep valleys. For years, erosion left it almost impassable, cutting off farming communities and blocking trade between Ibiono Ibom and Ikono. Farmers were often forced to sell their produce cheaply to the few traders who could reach them.

Once complete, the road is expected to give these farming communities a reliable route to markets, cut travel time between the two LGAs, and boost trade and farm incomes. It fits the ARISE Agenda's aim of opening up rural communities.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The road joins villages in Ibiono Ibom and Ikono that sit on either side of streams. The two bridges are meant to give people a safe crossing in all seasons, so they can reach schools, clinics and relatives more easily.

For work and income

Farmers along the route can move produce to the markets of Ibiono Ibom with less trouble. A good road with drainage can also lower the wear on vehicles and make transport between the two LGAs more regular.
