About the project

The Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) is a vocational training centre at Ikot Ada Idem in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, about 8km from Uyo. It sits on 12.8 hectares on the site of a former technical college.

The centre was rebuilt by the administration of former Governor Udom Emmanuel, who commissioned it on 24 May 2023. Governor Umo Eno's administration has since put it into full operation. The University of Lagos is its academic partner and supports its curriculum and quality checks.

The centre has workshops, an integrated farm, hostels and a medical centre. It trains young people across nine faculties and departments, including agriculture, hospitality and lifestyle management, civil and building technology, electrical and electronics technology, automobile technology, ICT, metal technology and wood technology. The state sponsored the first set of trainees and paid them a monthly stipend during training.

The first 240 trainees graduated on 29 March 2025, and a third set of 568 graduates has since passed out. A fourth set is in training.

The centre is expected to give young people practical skills, help them find jobs or start their own businesses, and supply skilled workers to industries in the state. This fits the ARISE Agenda's focus on youth development and jobs.
