About the project
ARISE Shopping City is a shopping centre being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government within the Ibom Tropicana complex in Uyo.
It is one part of a tourism hub that Governor Pastor Umo Eno is developing in the capital. The hub also includes the 5,000-seat Ibom International Convention Centre, the 200-room Ibom Hotel and an amusement park.
The idea is that visitors can attend a conference, stay in a hotel, shop and relax in one place. The Governor has said the centre is designed to attract local and international visitors as well as high-end shoppers.
Phase one includes a main hall, three blocks (A, B and C), cinemas, a pedestrian bus terminal, a utility building and a fire station. By July 2026 piling tests were done, and work on the ground, the utility building, the fire station and the perimeter fence was under way.
When complete, the shopping city is expected to create jobs and business space for traders, keep more visitor spending in the state and support the tourism goals of the ARISE Agenda.
