About the project

This project is a 12 megawatt power substation in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. It is designed to serve four Local Government Areas: Etim Ekpo, Ukanafun, Oruk Anam and Ika. For that reason it also appears in the records for those areas.

The substation is being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government. Construction is ongoing.

Etim Ekpo, Ika and nearby Abak have long shared high-tension power lines, so a fault or an act of vandalism in one area could cut power in the others. A separate substation is meant to split the supply, so that each area can be fed more reliably.

Once complete, the substation is expected to improve electricity supply for homes, shops, small industries, schools and health centres in the four LGAs, and to help local businesses grow. It fits the ARISE Agenda's aim of better infrastructure for rural areas.
