About the project

The ARISE Youth Friendly Centre is being built at the Itu Local Government Council headquarters at Mbak Atai. It is a centre for young people in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Governor Umo Eno flagged off the construction on Tuesday 21 October 2025. The Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Nsikak Ekong, performed the exercise at the Itu Council Secretariat for the Governor. The Itu centre was flagged off at the same time as centres in other local government areas. It is part of Aspiration 2 of the ARISE Agenda, which deals with youth skills development.

The centre is a purpose-built facility for training in business ideas, software design, enterprise development and startup support. When it is complete it is to have an ICT hub, an e-library, a coffee shop, a recreation lounge, a co-working space and a creative development centre. It is planned to run on solar power and to have modern security systems.

Work is ongoing. By late September 2026 the state had commissioned seven youth centres, and Itu was not yet among them. The contractor, cost and completion date have not been published.

When it is finished, the centre is expected to help young people in Itu find work or create their own jobs.
