How it helps people in Ikono

For families and communities

Ten ARISE Compassionate Homes give housing to people in need in Ikono wards. A Model Health Centre at Ikot Etim, Ukpom is under construction, and Ikono also has a general hospital renovation and the Senior Citizens Centre. The Youth Friendly Centre at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo is designed to train young people in skills. Model and remodelled primary schools are meant to improve learning spaces at Ndiya and Nung Ukim.

For work and income

Ikono's economy is mainly farming. The 21.5km Urua Naira road with a 60-metre bridge is meant for local transport and farm produce. Grants and equipment reached 53 farmers, 87 traders and 68 others, with a car and two mini buses. The Youth Friendly Centre is expected to help young people earn a living through skills.

For getting around and reaching services

Ikono's road projects include the 21.5km Urua Naira road, the 12.5km road to Uyo, the 4.6km Nung Ukim network with solar street lights, Ring Road 3 and the 10.9km road shared with Ibiono Ibom. These are designed to link Ikono with Uyo and Ibiono Ibom. The Model Health Centre and the hospital works are meant to widen access to care.
