About the project

The Nsan Use to Nkwot Edem Edet Road, also called the Use Ikot Amama Road, is a 10.9-kilometre rural road with two bridges. It runs from Nsai Use through Use Ikot Amama, Ibiaku Ikot Esifa and Utong Mmong to Nkwot Edem Edet, linking communities in Ibiono Ibom and Ikono Local Government Areas.

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council approved the road in late November 2024. Governor Umo Eno flagged off construction on 27 March 2025, on the same day as the 21.5-kilometre Ikot Anyan Ediene road in Ikono. Setraco Limited is the contractor. Work is ongoing.

The route crosses hilly ground cut by deep gullies, where rainwater runs off fast. For years this has blocked trade between Ibiono Ibom and Ikono. The new road and its two bridges are meant to give these farming communities a reliable way in and out.

Once complete, the road is expected to open up access to farms along the route, help farmers move produce to market and make travel between the two LGAs easier. It is one of the rural road projects of the ARISE Agenda, which aims to connect every part of the state with a road network that supports economic activity.

The road has not yet been commissioned.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The road joins villages on the eastern side of Ikono to their neighbours in Ibiono Ibom. Two bridges are meant to carry people over water that would otherwise cut the route.

For work and income

Farmers on both sides of the LGA boundary can use the road to reach more than one market. A direct link between the two LGAs can also shorten the path for goods moving between them.
