For families and communities
The road crosses a large part of Ikono and joins villages that had waited a long time for it. The bridge is meant to give a safe crossing all year.
I'm glad to share that work on Ikot Anyan Ediene to Urua Naira (Nnung Ukim) Road with bridge in Ikono LGA is under way. A 21.5km road with a 60-metre span bridge.

A 21.5km road with a 60-metre span bridge. It is meant for local transport and for moving farm produce.

The Ikot Anyan Ediene to Urua Naira (Nnung Ukim) Road is a 21.5-kilometre rural road in Ikono Local Government Area. It runs from Ikot Anyan Ediene through Ikot Ntia, Urua Naira, Ikot Nseyen and Nkwot to Nung Ukim, and it includes a bridge.
The Akwa Ibom State Government approved and awarded the road in 2022, under former Governor Udom Emmanuel. ZEE Construction Company got the contract, which had a two-year completion period and a cost of about N6 billion. The communities along the route had waited about 50 years for a proper road. The project continues under Governor Umo Eno, and work is ongoing.
The road is aimed at local transport and at agribusiness. Ikono produces a lot of food, and the road is meant to help farmers move produce from their farms to markets in Ikono and beyond.
Once complete, the road is expected to cut travel time between these communities, open up farmland and support trade. It fits the rural roads and agriculture goals of the ARISE Agenda.
The road has not yet been commissioned.
