About the project

Ten ARISE Compassionate Homes have been built across the wards of Ikono Local Government Area. Each home was given to one person or family in need.

The homes are part of the ARISE Compassionate Homes programme of Governor Umo Eno's administration, funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government. The Governor started the programme after seeing that some of the most vulnerable people in the state lived in shanties and run-down structures. Its aim is to build a decent home for the poorest people in each ward of the state. All ten homes in Ikono are completed.

The homes are meant to give widows, poor families and other vulnerable people a safe and decent place to live. Across the state, 455 of the 500 homes planned under the programme had been completed and handed over by mid-2026. The programme is one of the social welfare pillars of the ARISE Agenda.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The before and after pictures show a family moving from a poor dwelling into a new house. A safe home gives dignity and protects people from rain and illness.

For work and income

A household with a new home is spared the cost of rent or constant repairs. Spreading the homes across wards also spreads the building work among local artisans.
