About the project

The Youth Friendly Centre, also called the Youth Development Centre, is at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, the headquarters of Ikono Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State. It is one of the youth centres the state government is building in all 31 local government areas.

The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno is delivering the centre. Ikono was one of 11 pilot sites where construction was flagged off on 21 October 2025. The contractor has not been published. The centre was commissioned on Friday, 4 September 2026. The Governor was represented by Hon. Martins Esin, Chairman of the House Committee on Youth Development. The centre is completed.

The state plans each youth hub to include training rooms, an ICT hub, co-working space, an e-library and a creative space. Ikono is one of seven centres where youth skills training is starting. The three-month programme is run by the Ministry of Youth Development for young people aged 45 or younger who live in Ikono.

The centre is expected to help young people in Ikono build skills, find jobs or start their own work. It fits the youth empowerment and wealth creation goals of the ARISE Agenda.
