About the project

The State College of Science and Technology at Nung Ukim, Ikono Local Government Area, is a state-owned college. It began as the School of Arts and Science and was upgraded to a College of Science and Technology, able to award the HND, under the previous administration.

On 21 August 2025, at the Ikono/Ini Town Square Meeting held at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, Governor Umo Eno approved immediate intervention works at the college. He directed the Commissioner for Education to visit the school and find out what it needs to get its programmes accredited.

Stakeholders from the area asked the Governor to upgrade the college further. He said it would either remain a College of Science and Technology or become a campus of the Akwa Ibom State University, and left that choice to the people and leaders of Ikono.

The intervention is meant to help the college meet accreditation standards so its courses can run fully and attract more students. It forms part of the education pillar of the ARISE Agenda. The works are still at the planning stage, and no work on site has been reported yet.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

If carried out, the upgrade is meant to improve the place where students in Ikono study after secondary school.

For work and income

A stronger college could bring more students and staff to Nnung Ukim, which can support local housing, food and transport businesses. Nothing has been delivered yet.
