About Oron

The economy is driven by fishing, farming, trade, boat building and other small businesses. This gives Oron a place in the state's coastal and blue economy. Oron is also part of Oro Nation.

Oron's coast, mangroves, waterfront communities, historic sites and fishing culture are reasons people could visit. Oron Beach is marked for tourism. General Hospital, Iquita serves Oron and nearby communities. Villages in the area include Iquita, Idua Assang, Uya-Oro, Udung Esin and Uko-Oyukim.

How it helps people in Oron

For families and communities

The Model Primary Health Centre and the work at General Hospital, Iquita, are meant to bring care closer to residents and reduce long trips for basic treatment. The Model Primary School at Uko-Oyukim gives pupils a newer building. The Compassionate Homes give shelter to vulnerable widows, and the Youth Development Centre offers skills training to young people.

For work and income

The Youth Development Centre trains young people in ICT, e-commerce, fashion, design and catering, which can support self-employment. The planned jetties, terminal, warehouse, cold rooms and ferries are designed to support water transport and trade, but they are still plans. Oron Beach is marked as a future tourism site.

For getting around and reaching services

The completed 4.2km of internal roads improve movement within Oron, and the 800m drain is meant to reduce erosion and drainage problems along them. The planned maritime facilities would add water transport links if built. An ambulance and the health facilities support emergency and basic care access.
