About the project

The Model Primary School, Uko-Oyukim is a rebuilt public primary school in Oron Local Government Area. It replaced the old Uko-Oyukim primary school with a modern campus. The sign on the building reads Uko-Uyukim Government Model School.

The school was built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno as part of its model schools programme. A young local contractor handled the building work. Governor Eno commissioned the school on Wednesday 12 March 2025, the same day he flagged off the Oron maritime hub project at Oron Beach. The Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umoh, and the Oron Council Chairman, Mr Okon Enweme, also spoke at the event.

The school has 19 classrooms for 495 pupils. It also has an ICT laboratory, a fully furnished library, a head teacher's office and waiting area, an auditorium and a football field. The classroom blocks are set around an open courtyard inside a fenced compound.

The school is meant to give children in Oron a better place to learn and to lift the standard of public primary education in the area. It is expected to draw more pupils into public schools and to cut what parents spend on schooling. It is part of the education pillar of the ARISE Agenda.
