About the project

The Methodist Model Primary School at Obot Atan, in Obot Akara Local Government Area, is a rebuilt public school. The school was first set up by the Methodist Mission in 1939.

The Akwa Ibom State Government rebuilt it as a model primary school. The new school has 17 furnished classrooms, a library and an ICT laboratory with desktop computers. There is also staff housing made up of a two-bedroom flat and a three-bedroom flat.

The school runs on solar power. The compound has a perimeter fence and gate, security facilities, a play area and green areas.

The school was commissioned on 7 September 2026 as part of the 39th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State. The Governor was represented by Sir Monday Ebong Uko. The Executive Chairman of Obot Akara, Rt. Hon. Simon Dominic Akpan, welcomed guests, and the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Essien Umoh, gave an overview of the project. Education is free in state primary schools, and pupils are given bags, socks, shoes and uniforms. The school is expected to give children in Obot Atan and nearby communities a better place to learn.
