About the project
The ARISE Compassionate Homes are free houses built by the Akwa Ibom State Government for widows and other vulnerable people living in poor housing. In Oron Local Government Area, homes have been built and handed over to widows under the scheme.
The homes are delivered under Governor Umo Eno as part of the state's social intervention work. Beneficiaries are chosen at ward level from among those living in the worst conditions in their communities. By April 2025, five families in Oron had received homes.
Each home is a furnished two-bedroom bungalow with a solar-powered water system. Each beneficiary also receives a business grant of N500,000 to start or grow a small trade.
The homes are meant to give widows and their children a safe, decent place to live, and the grant is meant to help them earn a steady income. The scheme is part of the ARISE Agenda's focus on caring for the poor and vulnerable.
