About the project
The Model Primary Health Centre in Oron, also called the Oron Primary Health Centre Operational Base, is a public health facility in Oron Local Government Area. Besides the main clinic, it has an administrative complex and staff quarters, so that health workers can live on site.
The centre was built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno, as part of a plan to give each of the 31 local government areas a model health centre. Governor Eno commissioned it on 26 May 2026, during a tour of Oron to mark his third year in office. On the same tour he opened the Oron Youth Development Centre, the rebuilt Ukpong and Effiong Esang streets, and the new council administrative block.
The centre provides maternal, newborn and child health care. This covers antenatal care, safe delivery, postnatal care, routine immunisation and child growth monitoring. It also has a food demonstration space and a nutrition corner. It runs 24 hours a day, while the old facility closed at 4 pm.
The centre is expected to bring quality and affordable care to the grassroots, cut deaths of mothers and babies, and ease pressure on General Hospital, Iquita. It is part of the health pillar of the ARISE Agenda.
