About Esit Eket

It has 10 political wards under INEC and 11 under AKISIEC, in three geopolitical zones called A, B and C. Wards and communities include Ekpene Obo, Ebe Ekpi, Ikpa, Uquo, Ebighi Okpono, Etebi, Mbakuyo, Akpautong, Edo Atai, Odoro Nkit and Afaha Ekpenedi.

Agriculture is a major economic activity. Farming and fishing give a large share of the people their living. The oil palm estate formerly called Akwa Palm Plantation, now Dakkada Global Oil Palm Ltd, covers the Esit Eket communities of Etebi Idung Assan, Ntak-Inyang and Etebi Akwata. The same estate runs into Mbo and Urue-Offong/Oruko LGAs.

Other places include Uquo, where the council chairman's lodge is being built, and Success City Polytechnic.

How it helps people in Esit Eket

For families and communities

Four compassionate homes are handed over and six more are under way, giving vulnerable families three-bedroom bungalows with solar lighting and boreholes. The Ebe-Ekpi model primary health centre is commissioned and is designed to reduce long trips for basic care. Food distribution gave relief to vulnerable households.

For work and income

The estate access road is complete, and rehabilitation of the Dakkada palm estate is expected to create farm and plantation work. Grants, equipment support and vehicles reached 176 people, with a total cash grant of 65,400,000 naira. The Idung Ayang road is expected to help farmers reach their land and move produce.

For getting around and reaching services

The 1.35km estate road is finished and the 2km Idung Ayang road in Ekpene Obo is under construction. The health centre at Ebe-Ekpi adds a care point in a rural ward.
