ARISE Compassionate Homes

About the project

The ARISE Compassionate Homes in Esit Eket are free houses built by the Akwa Ibom State Government for poor and vulnerable citizens, such as widows, the elderly and indigent families. Ten homes are planned, one in each of the wards of Esit Eket Local Government Area.

The homes are part of a statewide scheme of Governor Pastor Umo Eno. Each home is a bungalow with solar-powered lighting and a borehole for clean water. The homes are handed over fully furnished, free of charge, and each beneficiary also receives a grant of 500,000 naira to start a small business.

In Esit Eket, 4 homes are completed, furnished and handed over, while 6 are still under construction. Sites include Ebe Ekpi, Uquo, Idung Akpaentuen, Akpautong, Ikpa Town, Ekpene Obo, Edo Atai, Odoro Nkit and Afaha Ekpenedi.

The homes are meant to give people who had no decent shelter a safe and dignified place to live. The scheme is a key part of the ARISE Agenda promise to care for the vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

Families who once struggled for decent shelter now own their homes, and the homes are restoring hope. A borehole and solar lights at each house also give the family water and light.

For work and income

Owning a furnished house with its own water and lighting takes away costs that a family would otherwise have to meet.
