About the programme
The ARISE food distribution in Esit Eket is part of the ARISE Food Security Programme of the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno. It gives free bags of food, mainly rice, to poor and vulnerable households across the communities of Esit Eket Local Government Area.
The food is bought in bulk by the state and shared in phases, local government by local government. Beneficiaries are vulnerable people drawn from the State Social Register, including persons living with disabilities.
In July 2026, the fourth phase of the programme reached Esit Eket, with 7,000 bags of rice handed out to people from communities across the area. Esit Eket was the seventh local government area to benefit in that phase. Governor Eno was represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga. Officials also announced that eligible beneficiaries would later receive debit cards preloaded with 75,000 naira each.
The programme is meant to give quick relief to families facing hunger and rising food prices. It forms part of the ARISE Agenda promise to care for the poor and the vulnerable.
