About Udung Uko

Most people farm, fish or do other maritime and rural work. Several communities are farming communities that need roads to move produce to market. A road from Edikor links Udung Uko to Udesi in Mbo Local Government Area. Before a health centre opened at Udung Otok, residents went to the General Hospital at Iquita in Oron.

The council secretariat is at Eyofin. Communities in the area include Udung Otok, Eyonsek, Ekim, Eyoabasi, Edikor, Udung Esio, Eyotai and Eyokponung. The area also has local markets and Usung Beach.

How it helps people in Udung Uko

For families and communities

The Udung Otok health centre means residents no longer have to travel to Oron LGA for hospital care. Ten compassionate homes, one in each ward, are being provided to vulnerable residents, and eight are complete. A model primary school and the reconstruction of three government primary schools are under way. 150 people benefited from the empowerment schemes.

For work and income

The Edikor-Udesi Road passes through farming communities and is expected to ease the movement of produce and access to markets once finished. Grants went to 17 farmers, 62 traders and 2 MSMEs, and 69 people received equipment support.

For getting around and reaching services

The Ekim-Eyoabasi Road links Udung Uko to Eyoabasi in Oron LGA with a tarred surface and streetlights. The Edikor-Udesi Road links Udung Uko to Mbo LGA. The health centre at Udung Otok gives a care point inside the LGA.

What people say

A motorcycle operator says the bad road used to damage motorcycles daily. He says he now carries passengers and farm produce on the tarred Ekim-Eyoabasi Road and supports his family from that work.
