ARISE Compassionate Homes

About the project

The ARISE Compassionate Homes in Udung Uko are free houses built by the Akwa Ibom State Government for widows and other vulnerable people living in poor housing. Ten homes are being provided in Udung Uko Local Government Area, one in each of its 10 wards.

The homes are delivered under Governor Umo Eno as part of the state's social intervention work. Eight of the ten homes have been completed and two are still being built.

The homes are at Udung Esio, Isong Uboro Inyang, Edikor Eyibia, Edikor Eyebiosio, Eyokponung, Eyotai, Oduoti Ekim, Eyouwe, Udung Uko Eyouweh and Eyokpu Edikor. Under the scheme, each home is a furnished two-bedroom bungalow with a solar-powered water system, and each beneficiary also receives a business grant of N500,000.

The homes are meant to give vulnerable families a safe and decent place to live, and the grant is meant to help them earn a steady income. The scheme is part of the ARISE Agenda's focus on caring for the poor and vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The homes have perhaps the most personal impact of all the projects, giving vulnerable families a new start. Spreading them across every ward means each part of the area is reached.

For work and income

A household given a home no longer has to spend on rent or on repairing an unsafe house. Building in different wards also gives work to local builders.
