About the project
The ARISE Model Primary Health Centre at Uko Ukikim is a state-built primary health care facility in Udung Uko Local Government Area. It stands in a fenced compound with a main clinic building and separate side blocks.
The centre was built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno. It was delivered in the first phase of the one-project-per-local-government scheme, which aims to give every LGA a model primary health centre and a model primary school. The centre is completed and in use.
Inside are wards with hospital beds, examination rooms and equipment for mothers and newborns, including a delivery couch and an infant warmer. The centre serves pregnant women, children, elderly people and other residents. Before it opened, people in the area travelled to the General Hospital at Iquita in Oron LGA for care.
The centre is expected to bring basic health care closer to rural families and ease the load on bigger hospitals. It is part of the ARISE Agenda drive to spread health facilities across all 31 LGAs. Residents were asked to take ownership of the facility and keep it well used.
The centre was commissioned on 21 February 2025 by Governor Umo Eno, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Patrick Essiet. It was the fourth model primary health centre commissioned in the state. The Udung Uko Council Chairman, Elder Godwin Okponung, and the member representing Oron/Udung Uko State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Kenim Onofiok, attended.
