For families and communities
The system reduces delays during accidents, maternal emergencies and other life-threatening situations. A free line means anyone can call for help.

An operations centre for the state emergency medical and ambulance system. It has tracked ambulances, intensive-care ambulances and a toll-free communication line to cut delays in emergencies.

This is the operations centre of the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (AKISEMSAS), at the State Secretariat Annex in Uyo. It coordinates emergency medical response across the state.
The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno set up the service, which began operating on 1 March 2025. It has 29 ambulances: 16 basic life support ambulances, 10 advanced life support ambulances and 3 mobile intensive care units. Ambulances are placed along major highways and across all ten federal constituencies.
The centre runs toll-free emergency lines around the clock. Ambulances are tracked by GPS and fitted with cameras so doctors can follow cases in real time, and the centre links responders with hospitals. The first 48 hours of emergency care are free for vulnerable and elderly people, and women in labour get free transport.
In its first ten months the service attended to about 2,500 emergencies, usually reaching patients in under 12 minutes. It is meant to save lives by cutting delays in emergencies, in line with the health pillar of the ARISE Agenda.

Fast emergency care can save lives and limit the long-term cost of injury to families. A central system also helps ambulances and hospitals be used where they are most needed.
