About the project
The Model Primary Health Centre on Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo, is a primary health facility built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno. It is the model for new primary health centres the state is building across its 31 Local Government Areas.
The centre is in use and brings basic health care closer to residents of the capital. It also serves as an operational base for the state's model health centre programme.
In October 2025, the House of Representatives Committee on Health Services visited the centre. The committee chairman said it was among the best primary health facilities the committee had seen in the country, and praised the plan to repeat the design in every LGA.
The programme aims for at least one model primary health centre in each LGA. It is meant to bring quality basic care closer to communities and ease pressure on general hospitals, in line with the health pillar of the ARISE Agenda.
