About the project

The Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre Revitalization Project is the state's effort to recover and complete the Ibom Tropicana complex on Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo. RATCON Construction Company Ltd is among the contractors on the project.

The complex sits on about 82 hectares. It was started in 2008 and includes a theme park, a 14-storey hotel tower and a 5,000-seat convention centre. Work stalled in 2014, and parts of the land were taken over by trespassers.

In June 2024 Governor Pastor Umo Eno inspected the site, met the contractors and ordered the recovery of all encroached land, the removal of illegal structures, the cleaning of the site and tighter security. On 24 May 2025 he flagged off the new International Convention Centre and the 200-room Ibom Hotel. A new ARISE Shopping City is also being built in the complex. By April 2026 the convention centre was about 60 per cent complete.

The plan is to turn the complex into a busy hub where visitors can attend events, stay, shop and relax in one place. It is expected to create jobs, grow tourism and business events and earn revenue for the state, in line with the ARISE Agenda. Work is ongoing.
