About the project
The 2.9km Secretariat Road, also called the Eweme Road, is in Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It runs from the council secretariat at Urue Offong through Ukuko Utuku to Ibotong Eweme, linking three communities.
The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno funded the road. Bulletine Construction Company Nigeria Ltd built it under the supervision of the State Ministry of Works and Fire Service. The route was a bush track before work began. The road has drains on both sides, culverts and a spur, a 150mm stone base and a 60mm asphalt surface. It is designed to last 20 years.
It is the first road built by the state government in the area since the LGA was created in 1991. It gives the council headquarters a paved link to nearby villages and to a large local farm, so farmers and traders can move their goods more easily.
The road was commissioned on Tuesday 29 October 2024 by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, who represented the Governor. She said it was only the first of more roads the state would build in the LGA. The road is completed and in use.
