About the project
The Akwa Ibom State Medical Oxygen Production Plant (AKSMOPP) is at Ituk Mbang in Uruan Local Government Area. It produces medical-grade oxygen in cylinders for hospitals in the state.
The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno built the plant. The Governor commissioned it on Saturday 1 March 2025, with the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, in attendance. He asked the management to keep production going round the clock.
At the launch the plant had three compressors, each able to fill 50 cylinders a day, and was producing about 120 cylinders a day. The Governor said the plant was a response to deaths in hospitals caused by a lack of oxygen.
The plant is expected to give hospitals in the state a steady local supply of oxygen and to support emergency and intensive care.
