About the project

ARISE Compassionate Homes are free houses built by the Akwa Ibom State Government for widows, elderly people and families living in very poor conditions. In Uruan Local Government Area there are 14 homes.

The homes are spread across Uruan, in Mbiaya Uruan, Ndon Ebon, Ekim Enen, Mbiakong, Ifiayong Obot, Idu Uruan, Ibikpe Uruan, Nung Abia Nung Ikono Ufok, Nnung Oku Uruan, Ifiayong Usuk, Ekpene Ibia, Issiet Ekim, Ekpene Ukim and Afaha Ikot.

Under the scheme, each home is a two-bedroom bungalow given free of charge and fully furnished. It comes with a solar power system, its own water supply and an outside kitchen. Beneficiaries are chosen from the wards, starting with those living in the worst conditions in their communities.

The scheme is a key part of Governor Pastor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda. It is meant to give the poorest families in Uruan a safe, decent place to live.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The homes give shelter and security to vulnerable families across the area.

For work and income

A family that is given a home is freed from the cost of rent or of patching an unsafe house. Building in many villages also spreads work for builders and suppliers around the area.
