About the project

The ARISE Compassionate Homes in Ukanafun are free houses built by the Akwa Ibom State Government for poor and vulnerable residents, such as widows, the elderly and the less privileged. They are part of a statewide scheme of Governor Pastor Umo Eno.

The homes are shared out by ward, with beneficiaries picked from among those living in the worst conditions in their communities. Each home is a furnished two-bedroom house with solar-powered lighting and a borehole for clean water. Each beneficiary also receives a grant of 500,000 naira to start a small business.

In Ukanafun Local Government Area, 10 homes have been completed, one in each of ten wards, and 3 more are under construction in the remaining wards.

The homes are meant to give people who had no decent shelter a safe and dignified place to live, and a small source of income. The scheme is a key part of the ARISE Agenda promise to care for the vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The homes give families who had no decent shelter a safe place to live. Housing is part of the social and humanitarian support reaching vulnerable families in Ukanafun.

For work and income

A family with a secure home no longer has to spend on rent or constant repairs, and can put what it earns into food, school and small trade. Building the homes also brings work to the wards while construction lasts.
