About the project

This is the 1.3-kilometre access road to the new General Hospital at Ikot Akpa Nkuk, the headquarters of Ukanafun Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State. It was built by the Akwa Ibom State Government as part of the work to complete the hospital.

Together with 0.89 kilometres of internal roads inside the hospital grounds, it makes up the 2.2 kilometres of access and internal roads delivered with the hospital.

The road carries patients, staff, ambulances and supply vehicles from the surrounding communities to the hospital gate. It is meant to make it quicker and safer to reach care, especially in emergencies and in the rainy season.

The road was commissioned with the hospital by Governor Pastor Umo Eno on Friday, 21 November 2025, as part of the health care goals of the ARISE Agenda.

A hospital is only useful if people can reach it. This road gives the sick, pregnant women and emergency cases a direct way in to the General Hospital, in dry and wet weather alike.
