About the project
This project is the dualisation of the 13.5-kilometre road from Okopedi in Okobo Local Government Area towards Oron and the East-West Road. It is Phase II of the dual carriageway that starts at the Airport and runs through Okopedi. The project includes a bridge.
The road is funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government and built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). The contract was valued at about N45 billion. Governor Pastor Umo Eno flagged it off on 13 February 2024.
By July 2025 the work was more than half done. Drains were about 75 percent complete, earthworks about 67 percent, and piling for the bridge was under way. The job was planned to take 24 months. No completion or commissioning date has been announced.
When finished, the road is expected to give Okobo and Oron a fast, safe dual carriageway to the Airport, Uyo and the East-West Road. It is meant to cut travel time and boost trade in the Oron area.
