For families and communities
People in Okobo now have a completed road towards Uyo after a long wait. It makes it easier to reach hospitals, schools and offices outside the LGA, and easier for relatives and visitors to come in.
I'm glad to share that work on Nsit Atai - Okobo Road (14.5km) in Okobo LGA is nearly done. A 14.5km road between Nsit Atai and Okobo that had been abandoned for over two decades.

A 14.5km road between Nsit Atai and Okobo that had been abandoned for over two decades. It is dualised, with a painted central divider. In Nsit Atai and Uruan it is known as the Airport - Okopedi corridor.

The Nsit Atai - Okobo Road is a 14.5-kilometre dual carriageway that runs from the Uyo Airport Road junction to Okopedi in Okobo Local Government Area. It passes through Uruan, Nsit Atai and Okobo LGAs and is the main road link between Uyo, the state capital, and the Oro area.
The road had been left undone for many years. A contract to dualise it was awarded under the previous administration, but the work was not finished. The administration of Governor Umo Eno re-awarded the contract to Hensek Integrated Services and pushed the work to completion under the ARISE Agenda. The road is now completed.
The old single carriageway was turned into a dual carriageway, with each direction on its own lanes and a divider in the middle. The work included drains, asphalt surfacing, median barriers, road markings and a roundabout.
Communities such as Ikot Asua in Nsit Atai, where the old road was hard to pass even by bicycle, now have a direct route to Uyo for trade, school, health care and government business. The road is also expected to open up Okobo's farms, creeks and fishing villages to wider markets and to improve links towards the Ibom Deep Seaport area.

The road has opened up Okobo to Uyo. Farm produce, fish and seafood can be taken to larger markets more easily, and traders can bring goods in.
Abandoned for over two decades before the Umo Eno administration completed it.
