About the project

The Nto Ide to Ikot Amba Bridge is a 60-metre span reinforced concrete bridge in Obot Akara Local Government Area, with an 800-metre approach road. The bridge is piled to a depth of 23 metres and is built to carry 450 tonnes, about seven fully loaded cement trucks at once. It reconnects communities that had long been cut off from each other.

The project was started in 2021 by the previous administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel. It was about 60 per cent done when that government left office in May 2023. Governor Umo Eno's administration completed it, keeping his promise to finish projects left by his predecessor. The contractor is Seyang Nigeria Limited.

Governor Umo Eno commissioned the bridge and road on 16 May 2024. At the same event he approved a new road and bridge contract for Mbiaso, also in Obot Akara, and gave it to the same firm. He also approved a model primary school at St. Patrick's Catholic Primary School, Nto Ide.

The bridge is expected to give people a safe crossing all year, make it easier to move farm produce, and shorten trips to markets, schools and health centres. It fits the ARISE Agenda goal of opening up rural communities.
