About the project

The ARISE Compassionate Homes in Obot Akara are 9 new homes built for some of the most vulnerable people in the Local Government Area. All 9 homes are completed.

The homes are part of an Akwa Ibom State Government housing scheme under Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda. People are chosen at ward level, from those living in the worst conditions in their communities. Persons with disabilities in Obot Akara are among those who have received homes.

Each home is a two-bedroom house, given free of charge. It comes furnished, with solar lighting, a solar-powered borehole and an outside kitchen. Each new owner also receives a business grant of N500,000 to start or grow a small trade.

The scheme is meant to give vulnerable families safe and decent shelter, with water and power on site, and a way to earn a living. It is expected to restore dignity to people who had been living in very poor housing.
