About the project

The Ofriyo to Ikot Ekpene Udo dual carriageway is a 2.49-kilometre road with a 120-metre bridge. It runs from Ikot Ekpene Udo in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area to Ofriyo in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, and links Nsit Ubium, and Nsit Ibom beyond it, with Eket.

The Akwa Ibom State Government is funding the work under Governor Pastor Umo Eno, and Amitec Construction Company is the contractor. The Governor inspected the site in November 2025 and again in May 2026. In May 2026 the contractor said more than 60 percent of the bridge foundation work was done, and work on the road and drains had made good progress. The Governor has asked for the road and bridge to be ready by December 2026. Work is ongoing.

The new dual road and bridge are expected to give people in Ikot Ekpene Udo and nearby communities a shorter, safer route to Eket, and to make it easier to move farm produce to markets and to reach schools and farms. The Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, has described it as an alternative route of real economic value.

The project is part of the ARISE Agenda drive to open up rural communities. It has not yet been commissioned.
