About the project

This project is the dualization of the 11.617-kilometre road from Ikot Imo through Ikot Ekpene Udo to Okon Eket. It serves Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and also covers parts of Nsit Ibom and Eket.

The road is a project of the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno. It is a paved dual carriageway with a median barrier and street lights.

The road links communities in Nsit Ubium, including Ikot Ekpene Udo, with Eket. Ikot Ekpene Udo is also the site of a new general hospital and a model primary school being built by the state.

A wider, lit road is expected to make travel safer, ease traffic and support trade between Nsit Ubium, Nsit Ibom and Eket. It fits the ARISE Agenda aim of opening up rural areas and linking them to major towns.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The Okon Eket corridor is among the places where new roads are restoring access to schools and healthcare. A divided road with lights is also meant to make travel safer, including at night.

For work and income

A dual road toward Eket can carry more traffic and goods. The new roads in this corridor are linked to faster trade.
