About the project

ARISE Compassionate Homes are free houses built by the Akwa Ibom State Government for vulnerable families. In Nsit Ubium Local Government Area there are 27 homes, with 8 of them in Ikot Ekpene Udo. Other locations include Ikot Akpabin, Ikot Ekwere, Nnung Obong, Ndiya Ikot Ukap and Edem Idim Okpot.

The scheme is a humanitarian programme of Governor Pastor Umo Eno. Each home is a two-bedroom bungalow with furnished rooms and an external kitchen, with solar power and water supply. Each family also receives a business grant of N500,000, and the Governor has directed that beneficiaries get medical checks at the state's expense.

A home at Ikot Ekpene Udo was among those handed over across the state in July 2024. At that handover the Governor was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

The homes give shelter and restore dignity to families who could not afford decent housing. The grant is meant to help each family start or grow a small business and support itself. The scheme is part of the ARISE Agenda focus on caring for the poor and vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

Families who lived in weak or thatched houses are given a solid home. This means shelter and restored dignity for people who had little.

For work and income

A family with a secure home no longer has to spend on rent or constant repairs, and can put what it earns into food, school and small trade.
