About the project

The ARISE Compassionate Homes scheme provides free houses for elderly, disabled and other vulnerable residents who lack decent housing. In Nsit Atai Local Government Area, 10 homes have been completed, one in each of the LGA's 10 political wards.

The homes are built and paid for by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno. Each home is built in the beneficiary's own community. Homes in Nsit Atai come fully furnished, with solar power and a detached kitchen, and beneficiaries also receive a N500,000 grant to start a small business.

Spreading the homes across all 10 wards means the support reaches every part of the LGA rather than one community. The homes are meant to give each family a safe and dignified place to live and a fresh start in life.

The scheme is the flagship humanitarian programme of the ARISE Agenda and aims to provide 400 homes across the state's wards.
