About the project

The Mkpat Enin to Ikot Ubo to Ikot Ntot to Nkikara Road is a 10.519-kilometre road. It runs through communities in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area and into part of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council approved the road in August 2021, under Governor Udom Emmanuel, and awarded it to Gitto Construction Company on an 18-month timeline. The project was inherited by the present administration, which continued and completed it.

The road links Mkpat Enin with Ikot Ubo, Ikot Ntot and Nkikara and gives a better route towards Ikot Abasi. It is expected to cut travel time, ease the movement of farm produce to markets and make schools and health centres easier to reach.

Governor Pastor Umo Eno commissioned the road himself on Wednesday 6 November 2024. He noted that it was started by his predecessor, thanked the people of Mkpat Enin for their support, and promised more projects in rural areas under the rural development focus of the ARISE Agenda.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The road joins the LGA headquarters to villages on the way to Ikot Abasi. Residents along it have a finished road for trips to school, clinics and the council offices.

For work and income

Mkpat Enin has fertile land for cassava, maize, plantain and oil palm. A completed road across two LGAs gives growers along it a way to carry produce to buyers in both.

Background

Inherited from an earlier administration, continued and completed under the Umo Eno administration.
