About the project

The Ikot Akpaden to Okoroete to Iko Road is a 13.5-kilometre road with two bridges of 20-metre span each. It runs from Ikot Akpaden, home of the main campus of Akwa Ibom State University in Mkpat Enin, to Okoroete and Iko in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area.

The project is funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government. In April 2026 the government announced the reconstruction of the road, with its two mini bridges, among the projects covered by a N123.5 billion release for new and ongoing road works. That release covered mobilisation, right-of-way compensation and payments due to contractors. The 2026 budget also provides N2.5 billion for the road. Work is ongoing.

The road is expected to give Okoroete and Iko a better link to Mkpat Enin and the rest of the State, ease the movement of produce to markets, and make the university, schools and health centres easier to reach.

It is part of the road expansion drive of the ARISE Agenda.
