About the project

The Ibekwe Akpanya to Ikot Unya to Ikot Eda to Iffe Town to Ikot Abasi Akpan to Ekpuk Road is a 13.5-kilometre rural road in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It links a chain of farming communities from Ibekwe Akpanya to Ekpuk.

The road is funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government. The 2025 budget provided N2.5 billion for it, and the 2026 budget provides N3 billion. The contract has been awarded and the contractor, a Chinese construction firm, has moved to site, with full work expected after the rains. In 2026 the Ibekwe to Ikot Unya to Ekpuk corridor was listed among ongoing road works approved by Governor Pastor Umo Eno.

Once complete, the road is expected to give farmers easier access to markets, cut travel time between these communities and the rest of the LGA, and make schools and health centres easier to reach.

It is part of the rural roads drive of the ARISE Agenda, under which every LGA has one or more roads slated for construction.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The corridor passes through six named communities. Once finished, it should make travel between them simpler for pupils, patients and families.

For work and income

The budget provision shows the road is funded. For the villages on it, the road is meant to lower the cost of moving crops and palm products out.
