About the project

The Ikot Akpaden to Ibekwe Akpanya Road is an 18-kilometre road in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Ikot Akpaden is home to the main campus of Akwa Ibom State University.

The road is being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno. The 2026 state budget provides N3.5 billion for it through the Ministry of Works and Fire Service.

In September 2026 the Senator for Akwa Ibom South, Ekong Sampson, described it as an ongoing major corridor road and said work would speed up once the rains end. No contractor or completion date has been confirmed.

Together with the road from Ibekwe Akpanya through Ikot Unya to Ekpuk, it is expected to form a long corridor across the LGA. It is expected to improve access for students, staff, farmers and traders and cut travel time between communities.
