About the project

The Itu to Urua Ekpa Road is a 2.07-kilometre road in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, built with a 1.4-kilometre discharge drain.

The road was rebuilt by the Akwa Ibom State Government. The work included an underground tunnel that carries storm water away from the road and nearby homes.

The road links Itu with the Urua Ekpa area. It is meant to make daily travel easier and safer for residents, traders and transporters, and the drain is expected to stop the flooding that damages roads and property in the area.

The road was commissioned on Sunday 20 September 2026 by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, who represented Governor Pastor Umo Eno. It was one of the projects commissioned to mark the 39th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State, under the ARISE Agenda.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The drainage tunnel is meant to keep homes and shops beside the road less exposed to flood water.

For work and income

A road that stays open in the rains lets traders and transport operators work through the wet season. Less flooding also means lower repair costs for buildings and vehicles.
