About the project

The Itam Industrial Layout Road, popularly called Quality Ceramics Road, is a 4.7-kilometre access road with a 1.0-kilometre discharge drain at Itam in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It is named after the old Quality Ceramics factory and serves the Itam industrial area close to Uyo.

The road is being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno. The contractor is Nigerpet Construction Company. It passes through Mbak Itam III, Ikot Ekwere Itam and Ikot Ebom Itam.

By June 2026 parts of the road at Mbak Itam III and Ikot Ekwere Itam had been tarred or laid with stone base. The stretch at Ikot Ebom Itam was stalled and flooded. Residents linked the delay to compensation, design changes and funding. The works include grading, compaction and drains to make the road last.

When finished, the road is expected to ease travel for residents, workers and students. It is also expected to help clay miners, traders and industries in the area move goods more cheaply.
