About the project

The construction of the 2.7-kilometre Nto Obio Akpan - Ikot Obong - Urua Akpan Road is a rural access road project in the Ikot Ekpene area. The road itself runs through Essien Udim Local Government Area and links the communities of Nto Obio Akpan, Ikot Obong and Urua Akpan.

The project is funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government. The State Executive Council approved it on 19 November 2024 as one contract together with the 2-kilometre Ikot Uso - Udo Atan - Nto Obodem - Mbiaso Road in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, so the award covers both Essien Udim and Ikot Ekpene. The 2026 state budget sets aside N800 million for the two roads together. Work was listed as ongoing in April 2025. The contractor has not been named publicly.

When complete, the road is meant to give these farming communities an all-season link to each other and to the main roads leading to Ikot Ekpene town and other parts of Essien Udim. Residents should find it easier to reach markets, schools, churches and health centres.

The road is part of the ARISE Agenda aim of opening up rural communities across Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency. It is expected to cut travel time, support farming and small trade, and ease movement in the rainy season. It has not yet been commissioned.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

Once complete, the road should make travel between the three communities easier, including trips to school, to church and to health facilities.

For work and income

The route ends at Urua Akpan, and a better road there can help farmers carry produce to sell. This is the expected use, as the road is still being built.
